Comedian competition
It’s tough enough trying to make a living as a stand-up comedian without other people trying to muscle in on the competitive improvisation circuit here in the States. I’m referring, of course, to those amateur comedians currently running for the Republican Party’s Presidential nomination. Those guys (and girls) should stick to politics and leave us to make the US public laugh; even though they are sometimes way better at it than I could ever be!
I kid, of course. When politicians try and be funny it inevitably backfires and they might as well walk around carrying giant banners with the world “LOSER” in six-foot high letters. When politicians are unintentionally funny, though, clips of their gaffes spread all over the world within hours and rack up millions of hits on YouTube before they’ve even realised what they said.

When George W stepped out of the limelight a lot of us thought the days of dumb, virtually illiterate Republican politicians were ending. Surely they wouldn’t be dumb enough to try and get another retard elected? It seems, however, that when it comes to the Grand Ole Party, you can never set your sights too low!

Candidates have already too many cock-ups to list in one small blog – and that’s before we get to the election campaign proper – but I had to give a shout out to Rick Perry, whose has surely secured the “Most Forgetful Politician” prize that he, er, forgot he was trying to win. In a live debate with other candidates, Perry was trumpeting one of his major policies; the plan to get rid of three federal government departments. Only problem was, Rick couldn’t remember them all. Rather than accept his mistake and move in, the poor guy floundered around for a good ten seconds trying desperately to recall whose jobs and livelihoods he would be destroying. Many say that’s the moment his campaign ended; well, he could always try the Washington DC comedy clubs if he needs to make a few dollars…
